"Virtual form is a manifestation of numerical sets and programmed behaviors displayed as pixels. Even when the illusion of volume, light and space are re-presented through two-dimensional imaging, we (as bodies in space) recognize something inherently true to our own experience and nature.
These forms are non-objective and do not depict objects that we know. Instead, they are the result of a process of real-time invention and discovery that is purely visual. They have much in common with musical improvisation and painterly, expressionist instinct.
The examples shown are always being added to and can be thought of as the precursors, the experiments, from which this entire body of work continues to flow. 3D modeling, imaging and programmable, generative technologies are the tools. A lifetime as a working artist has some bearing on the outcomes as well."
Michael Holcomb

"These are all large works, some up to eighteen feet in length. They are conceived after carefully observing, photographing, measuring and otherwise documenting the light and spaces in which the works will live.
I'm always excited by the challenge of creating work at this scale. The energy and power of massive forms and suggested movement can result in real, visceral sensation...as much to be experienced as seen."

"In some sense, drawings are the suggestions of fully rendered works. They are a way to study and understand what a completed work might be or even whether or not it should be. Still, at its best, a drawing has its own power and provides a unique record of discovery, ambition and hope."

"I use the computer to visualize and build what ultimately become actual three-dimensional objects. Both the additive and subtractive processes of sculpture correspond to our instinctive knowledge of the universe and our place in it."
